  I admit I am only about 1/8th of the way through the book, but I seem to be detecting this bias early on. I just started listening to this book (via MP3) and, like its predecessor, Pillars of the Earth, found it immediately engaging, tragic, and fascinating. For those not familiar with either mega best seller, they are books of historical. When she visits, Madame Khokhlakov and her daughter wait in the quarters set aside for gentlewomen. She tries to convince Dmitri Fyodorovich to go to the mines to prospect for gold; Madame Khokhlakov despises Dmitri, due to what she perceives as his poor manners, and would prefer that Katerina Ivanovna marry Ivan Fyodorovich.

The Ancient Mariner (aka the Hermit) is a hermit captain that Graham met on the coast of Serenia, living near the Northern Sea. On the beach in Serenia, lives an ancient-looking hermit. He lives in a strange little house made of pieces and parts of wrecked ships.   Project for my Time Arts class. It's a music video/storyboard-type thing of the Decemberists' "A Mariner's Revenge Song". This song has been one of my favori.

The monastery is said to be a huge building that has its own horrifying history where people are tortured, massacre, rituals and god knows how many bloods has been slaughtered there. The history behinds it includes the involvement of Hitler's and his terrifying research. Next proceed by shuttle bus to the salt mines for a visit.
